The route till Leh cannot be covered in a day, so you much have things planned before leaving for the trip. We’ve planned the itinerary of Delhi to Leh road trip so that you can easily get idea for the trip you are plannig or you can even follow the itinerary. This itinerary includes complete information about how you’ll be doing the trip. First focus will be to reach Manali as early as we can and then from the 2nd day, the real fun will start.

Night 1, Day 1 and Night 2: Delhi to Manali (540 Kms via Leh Manali Hwy)

  • Leave from Delhi late in the night around 11 PM. By leaving late at night, you’ll pass by Ambala around 3 AM and after a few kilometers, you’ll start driving uphills. So, you’ll reach manali by 1 in the afternoon.
  • Leaving from Delhi, take your first break at Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba, it might look early to take a break but it’ll charge you to cover next 200 Kms without the need of any break.
  • If you wish to, you can stop for the second break at Mayur Dhaba which is near to Ambala..
  • Make sure to keep an eye on Google maps once you reach near to Ambala. You need to take a left towards Banur from Ambala because we are not going through Chandigarh.
  • Take a break in Ambala and relax yourself a bit for the rest of the ride.
  • From Ambala, Manali is around 331 Kilometers which will take around 10 hours to reach.
  • After Ambala, our first stop will be Gurudwara Shri Pataal Puri Sahib which is about 107 Kms ahead of Ambala.
  • Continue for about 125 Kms and take the next break at Pulghrat Bridge which is near to Mandi. Manali is not so far from here.
  • Just after 10 kilometers from Pulghrat Bridge, you’ll arrive at Valley View Point in Magal which will give you a breathtaking view of the entire valley.
  • Great Himalayan National Park in Shamshi is among the major attractions on route, so if you have time in hand, we will suggest you to take a break here.
  • Continue for about 50 Kms and you’ll arrive in Manali. Check-in to the hotel and take rest. Then go out and explore nearby places to your hotel.
  • On Day 1, spend your entire day exploring Manali and on Day 2, we’ll leave for Sarchu.

Day 2: Manali to Sarchu (223 Kms via Leh Manali Hwy)

  • Leave from Manali early in the morning before 8 AM so that you can reach Sarchu with enough time in hand.
  • Take your first break at Gulaba View point which is just a few kilometers ahead of Manali. Then continue for Gulaba Water Falls.
  • Continue your ride on Leh Manali Highway and stop at Filmcity Hill View Point which is quite a popular tourist spot on this route.
  • Take your next break at Rani Nallah where you’ll spot snow coming from uphills and falling on the road you are standing at. Rani Nallah is situated along with Rohtang Pass, so just a few kms and you’ll arrive at your first destination of the day. From here, we’ll continue our journey towards Sarchu.
  • Continuing from Rohtang Pass, our next stop will be Tandi Bridge. As you are in Tandi, don’t forget to fill up your bike or car tanks as there are not many pertrol pumps available on this route.
  • Passing by Keylong, Jispa, and Zing Zing Bar, you’ll arrive at Suraj Tal Lake which is near to Baralacha La Pass. Take a little break here and enjoy maggi at food point available near to the lake. Just a couple of kilometers ahead you’ll arrive at Baralacha La Pass.
  • Passing through Killingsarai, you’ll arrive at your destination for the day which is Sarchu.

Day 3: Sarchu to Leh (250 Kms via Leh Manali Hwy)

  • Try to leave from Sarchu at around 8 in the morning so that you can have enought time to explore the route and reach Leh before sunset.
  • Just a few kilometers ahead of Sarchu, you’ll enter the Ladakh region. First stop for the day will be Nakee La which is located at altitude of 4739 meters form sea level.
  • Drive for about 40 minutes (18 Kms) ahead of Nakee La and you’ll arrive at Lachungla which is located at an altitude of 5065 meters. Continue driving for about 80 Kms, you’ll arrive at TanglangLa Top which is a major tourist attraction on this route. Take a few minutes break here and then continue your ride.
  • Take a break at Indian Oil Petrol Pump (GMaps Search: 8J5VWPWG+CV) and get your vehicle tanks filled. In just an hour, you’ll be in Leh.

Day 4 to 6: Explore Leh and Back to Manali

    Thank you so much. It has infused energy in my my mind and making me to say go for it @59 age. Woul like to go biking though not done for last 20 odd years… Or By car for sure.
